Type 1 Diabetes Genetic Risk Score (T1D-GRS)

Enabling earlier, more accurate diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes

Accurate early diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes is critical, but traditional diagnostic methods can be inconclusive in borderline cases — leading to misdiagnosis and suboptimal treatment.

The Type 1 Diabetes Genetic Risk Score (T1DGRS) is a low-cost, highly accurate test that distinguishes Type 1 from Type 2 diabetes using genetic markers — achieving 97% diagnostic accuracy.

T1DGRS improves treatment and outcomes by enabling earlier and more precise diagnosis. It reduces misdiagnosis, prevents complications, and enhances care efficiency across NHS systems.

To support development, our HRC:

  • Helped position the tool as a high-value diagnostic innovation for diabetes care
  • Enabled collaboration with NHS diabetes teams to identify diagnostic needs
  • Supported real-world testing and clinical integration within NHS pathways
  • Facilitated evidence generation to support uptake
